Current status of project:

1) Controller Circuit

- essentially complete

- figure out necessity of potentiometer with LCD

- optimize resistor choice for greater thermal resolution

- choose either optocoupler or power transitor

- depends on current need of heating element

- redesign PCB board to save space/cost

- choose components/manufacturers

- find property spreadsheets and pricings


2) Thermal Heating Element

- design - in progress

- material choice - in progress

- complete all CAD renderings

- design housing (sketch) first

- constructing possible controller system

- depending on viability of Peltier device pursue heat sink materials

- flush out overbranching concepts (thermal/compression/cyrotherapy)

- generate Pugh Chart for general therapies

  • present to client/patients/other O.T’s (generate large sample)

  • based on findings select ideal therapy and generate specific additional design requirements

  • generate “ideal therapy” tree to flush out possible options

  • met with control systems expert - Professor Dennis Mell to discuss microcontroller

  • preliminary presentation

  • met with client (Friday 9/20):

    • informed client of current progress and goals

    • clarified certain metrics with client

      • therapy accessory will be used in:

        • 15-30min intervals, 4x a day for heat application

        • 10 min intervals, 6x a day for cold applications

      • L-Code is high-demand requirement

        • If accessory is classified under an L-Code, the cost of the accessory can be subsidized by insurance providers, saving the consumer money.

        • potential code: L3807-WHF-0 static

      • total cost <$250; cost to customer <$100

  • client will send information concerning durability metrics and additional L-Code information
